Concert Review: N.E.R.D. rocks NYC; Diddy injured?

Entering the Roseland Ballroom on Saturday night I thought I was at a rock concert.

I walked into the standing room only venue to hear a rock band -- Chester French (signed to Star Trak) -- opening up for the Pharrell Williams led N.E.R.D. And I could tell I wasn't the only one surprised as people walking in had a look of confusion on their faces. (kinda like, "What the hell is this?)

The crowd was extremely diverse. Hip-hop meets alternative rock would be the best way to describe it. There was plenty of beer drinking, Long Island Ice Teas and smoking of "illegal substances."

Finally, the rocker band exited and it was time for the hip-rock band N.E.R.D. Their music is a fusion of hip-hop and alternative rock so I guess the opening act was acceptable. That would also explain the crowd. Let's not forget Pharrell also refers to himself as "Skateboard P."

I saw N.E.R.D. perform earlier this year at the Kanye West "Glow in the Dark" tour, so I was already prepared for their high-energy show. I was just looking forward to seeing how the crowd would react. And as expected, the crowd went absolutely nuts.

"Everybody Nose" and "Spaz" are N.E.R.D.'s biggest hits right now and both got huge reactions during their set. Among past hits that fans were treated to included "She Wants to Move" and "Lapdance." (Note: N.E.R.D. or the Neptunes is also responsible for the popular Noreaga "Superthug" beat from 1998...wow, can you believe that was 10 years ago!?)

On "Everybody Nose" Pharrell gladly flooded the stage with females and received plenty of that "groupie love" as lucky ladies grinded on him without any hesitation or coaching.

To give Pharrell credit...he's quite the performer and did his share of quirky dances to the delight of the crowd, which included hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Diddy had a front row seat in the balcony and got a special shout out from Pharell.

Pharell gave Diddy credit for helping him out early his career and giving him a chance.

What happened to Diddy?

Diddy could be seen standing up, singing the words and rocking out to "Lapdance." It seems as though Diddy suffered some sort of injury to his left arm as it was in a sling. Wonder happened to him this time??

And to further add to rumors of Diddy and R&B singer Cassie having some sort of relationship, it appeared as though she was nearby. I guess she was helping the injured Diddy. Hmmm..
